What is face yoga?
While yoga is primarily chosen for achieving a toned and fit body, facial yoga has recently gained significant attention for its similar effects. Emerging as a new lifestyle that addresses skincare problems with natural methods, facial yoga is also a part of a proper skincare routine. Moreover, just five minutes dedicated to skincare can yield pleasing results.
What are the benefits of face yoga?
Facial yoga improves blood circulation, strengthens facial muscles, softens fine lines and wrinkles, reduces swelling, improves under-eye circles, makes the skin firmer and tighter, relieves muscle stiffness and facial pain. In addition to all these effects, it also has a positive impact on overall body health, reduces stress, and helps relieve headaches.
How should face yoga be done?
Face yoga is simple enough to do with your fingers and fists. Starting from the center of the face and moving outwards and upwards to the temples, gentle pressure and movements with your fingers and fists help your skin glow and become firmer. You can enhance this effect by using products such as skincare oils, serums, or moisturizers during your yoga practice. If you wish, you can also use tools like rollers or gua sha for facial massage. If you want to support your skincare with face yoga, add these five simple exercises to your routine.
Forehead area
One of our largest muscles is located in the forehead area. A tense forehead muscle leads to many wrinkles. To reduce wrinkles, make fists with your hands and place the knuckles of your fingers directly in the center of your forehead. Take a deep breath and gently press your knuckles against your forehead. As you exhale, slowly slide your fingers towards your temples. Perform this exercise for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
around the eyes
Those who complain of puffiness around their eyes and dark circles under their eyes may find that these problems are alleviated with eye area exercises. Just as we apply our under-eye cream with our weakest finger, our ring finger, do eye area yoga with this finger as well. Place your ring finger on the inner corner of your eyebrows, gently tap outwards along the brow line, and inhale as you reach your temples. Then, continue tapping your fingers along your cheekbones towards the inner corners of your eyes. Repeat this 3-4 times.
Shaping the cheekbones.
Place your hands together in a prayer position above your nose. Slowly press your fingertips down from the top of your nose, moving in a half-moon shape towards your temples, below your cheekbones. Repeat this for 30 seconds. This movement not only shapes the cheekbones but also lifts the cheeks, creating a lifting effect.
Slimming the jawline
The jawline is a crucial area for facial aesthetics. To relieve tension in the jawline and make it appear slimmer, you can follow these steps: Grasp your jawline with your thumb and index finger. Following the bone, pull your fingers upwards along this line, all the way to below the ear. Perform this for 30 seconds on each side of the jawline.
Massage of the neck and décolleté.
Finally, you can prevent sagging in the neck and décolleté area by massaging this region. Tilt your head slightly back, and place your fingers on the top of your neck, just below your chin. Now, slide your fingers downwards, applying gentle pressure to your collarbones. When you reach the collarbone, apply gentle pressure for a few seconds. You should do this at least three times.
