Low Carbohydrate Diet Harms Women's Memory

A recent American study indicated that women who follow a low- or completely carbohydrate-free diet experience negative effects on their thinking and memory, while their counterparts who consume a reasonable amount of these foods do not suffer from this problem.

Medical News Today reported that the study, published in the journal "Appetite," pointed out that the types of food women eat directly and immediately affect their behavior, perception, and memory.

Low Carbohydrate Diet Harms Women's Memory

"The food you eat has an immediate impact on women's behavior and perception," said Holly Taylor, a professor of psychology at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, adding that women's brain cells need glucose to function. Taylor explained that low-carbohydrate foods (bread, pasta, and similar items) gradually weaken memory, urging women who want to lose weight to follow a balanced diet and eat foods rich in protein and vegetables.

She added, "The brain needs glucose for energy," warning that "a low-carbohydrate diet can hinder learning and weaken women's memory and thinking."
