This condition, known today as EVALI (E-Cigarette or Evaporation-Related Lung Damage), is caused by vitamin E acetate, a synthetic substance also used in topical skin creams.
Electronic cigarette liquids contain ingredients such as propylene glycol, which is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, and food thickener vegetable glycerin. These substances, which seem harmless when viewed alone, run the risk of forming toxic compounds when evaporated together. Moreover, regulatory control over these contents is still extremely limited.
IT CAUSES "EXPLODED CORN LUNGS"
Diacetyl, which is used to sweeten fruit drinks and add butter flavor to popcorn, is frequently included in electronic cigarette liquids. According to a 2015 study by Environmental Health Perspectives magazine, 39 of the 51 e-cigarette liquids tested contained this dangerous chemical. Regular inhalation of diacetyl can lead to bronchiolitis obliterans, the chronic disease first observed in workers in a popcorn factory, popularly known as popcorn lung.
SERIOUS DAMAGE AND VULNERABILITY TO LUNGS
The simulation clearly reveals mucus accumulation in the lungs and serious damage to the alveoli where gas exchange occurs. Inhaling all kinds of chemicals creates a paralyzing effect in ciliates, which are hair-like structures that keep bacteria and viruses out of the lungs. The healing process takes weeks, during which the lungs become extremely vulnerable to infections. While doctors emphasize that electronic cigarettes are only slightly less harmful than traditional cigarettes, research shows that the similarities between the two products are increasing day by day.
