Reduces Vitiligo
Turmeric contains high levels of curcumin, which helps the skin fight free radicals and reduces inflammation. There is also evidence that curcumin can help alleviate oxidative stress affecting skin cells responsible for melanin production, which leads to the appearance of white patches on the skin, a condition known as vitiligo.
Combats Skin Aging
Direct sun exposure and its harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays damage skin cells over time, leading to premature aging. Researchers have reported that turmeric possesses properties that help protect the skin from UV damage. A study published in the journal Phytomedicine in 2009 found that taking turmeric extract twice daily reduces the formation of wrinkles caused by prolonged UV exposure.
Helps Brighten Skin
Turmeric soap helps brighten the skin naturally due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which maintain its radiance and vitality. A homemade turmeric face mask can be made by mixing a small amount of turmeric with yogurt and honey, applying it to the skin, leaving it on for 15 minutes, and then rinsing with warm water.
It reduces the risk of developing certain skin diseases.
Turmeric may help protect the skin from certain skin diseases, but to date, there are not enough studies to provide conclusive evidence on how turmeric helps alleviate skin problems. However, turmeric may help alleviate eczema, alopecia areata, lichen planus, and other conditions.
